Root Theatre: new plays and community projects.
We discover, develop and make new work. That’s what gets us out of bed in the morning.
We think theatre should be: transformative, disruptive, for people who don’t go to the theatre, diverse, fun and affordable. We strive to make work that is political in its subject matter and its execution.
Root Theatre is changing its name to Script Club. This is the name of a project which encapsulates the spirit of the company – taking a writer back to their hometown to create a new play with and for their local community. The first Script Club play was ‘Cosmic’ by Tom Wells (Hull and East Riding); the second was ‘Germ Free Adolescent’ by Natalie Mitchell (Medway); and the third will be ‘Drip’, our first musical, back in Hull with Tom Wells and musician Matthew Robins.
Jane Fallowfield is the Artistic Director of Root Theatre.
